From the Crawley Observer:
CRAWLEY Town are playing down a story circulating that their star striker Matt Tubbs is the target of a massive bid being prepared by Leeds Utd.
The Reds paid a club record £70,000 to Salisbury City for the prolific marksman.
Since then he has become a firm favourite with the fans, scoring 17 goals in 20 appearances and is currently the leading scorer in the Blue Square Bet Premier.
Sky Sports website reported that a figure of around £500,000 is being offered by Leeds manager Simon Grayson.
The Championship club have a precedent for delving into Non-League Football as in 2006 they recruited Jermaine Beckford from Wealdstone.
Chief executive Alan Williams told us that no bids have so far been received for Tubbs and that he is not for sale anyway.
He said: “This rumour has been circulating for weeks and that’s all it is.
“No offers have been received for Matt from Leeds or anyone else.
“The club is not looking to sell any players because we are going for promotion.
“But if a bid did come in we would consider it at a board meeting.”

Probably due to the hefty transfer fee that Salisbury wanted?

Probably due to the hefty transfer fee that Salisbury wanted? Crawley will want silly money for him now as well.

Probably due to the hefty transfer fee that Salisbury wanted? £70,000? And he's now worth £500,000? And has also scored a load of goals? Seems like a pretty good investment to me... if someone told me I could turn 70k into 500k I'd get the money somehow

Could've signed Charlie Austin last season but the club chose Jamie Cook instead. Oxford were offered first dibs on him by Poole as the player specifically wanted to play for the club. Asking price was around £3,000.
Even worse than not going for Tubbs IMO.
