A few months ago, people on TiU were asking if anyone knew what happened to Dave Cudd.(Cuddy) We this weekend he contacted me through Friends re-united. Sadly he is not in the best of health, is disabled with arthritis in every joint, a hernia the size of a rugby ball, diabetes, asthma & now being tested for Cancer. On top of that, he lost half a lung when he was stabbed 20 years ago, but went on to then have 5 kids in 9 years but is now divorced. I would be happy to pass on any messages, I'm sure he'd be happy to hear from old friends.

Dave was one of the founders of the London Road Travel Club.
Along with Mick Brown, myself & a few others, he regularly organised coaches for away games, until the club & the Police invited us to form the 'official' travel club. Most that followed the Us in the mid/late 70s will remember Cuddy. He wasn't easy to forget.

I used to travel on Cuddy's coaches before the London Road Club was started. They were happy times. Wish him well from me in what must a bloody difficult period.

Sorry to hear this news.
They were great days following the club. The club was going through a grim time, but it was the really tight knit following that we had at the time that set us apart. People like Cuddy epitomised it. R & R to Cuddy.
We must know each other Vulcan.........

He mentioned Martin Cooper today. When Martin had a tatoo of the striped kit & the following season the strip changed to just a yellow shirt. I remember Martin very well, we got knicked together at Aldershot, or to be more precise, a few weeks after Aldershot. The only description the Aldershot fans could give was that one was an Oxford United fan 'built like a barrel'. So the Hampshire police stood behind the London Road at the next home game & not suprisingly, soon picked Martin out.
But he also reminded me of the first meeting with the club & the Police, when everyone dressed smartly for the occasion apart from me who turned up in Jeans & a vest top.

Have you had the pleasure of sitting on the back of Coops bike, the bloke was a bloody loon, going down the off ramp of the ring road by the then Press Steel, still don't know how he stopped the bike that day.

Hello everyone! Thanks, Vulcan I managed to get here in the end! Most of you will remember me as Cuddy (Dave). Thanks for all those nice things you lads wrote (keep them coming!) Behind the goal, you're right, I lived dead opposite Cowley ST, Christopher's. I was a bit of a tw*t in the '70's! (always game for a laugh). When we went to away games in large numbers, we were something else! Who remembers York shitty in the FA cup in '72? All those swindon away games? I remember the Aldershot away cup game, when a group of us pretended to be Aldershot fans! About 1000 U's fans came charging at us! (Aldersot fans had long disappeared) I also remember taking a coach to Gillingham and over 90 people turned up. Three fans tried to go in the coach's boot! Nutters? Yeah! Bloody good old boys and happy memories? You bet! Keep them coming!

Aldershot, when we went by train and walked through that nice park behind their end on a lovely sunny day. You must be old enough, Cuddy, to remember the Villa game which I keep telling everybody about. What a day! How about Dover away, Northampton (Peter Houseman RIP days), Brighton in the Cup, Coventry, Barking in the Cup, Reading (in the side), too many takings of the town end at swindon to mention, Nuneaton....... the list goes on. Great days amongst great (and reliable) friends.

Message to Londonroader; In the Seventies Martin had a 200cc Suzuki something or other. He gave me a lift on it once. Shee-it! He went into the back of someone's car and flew up in the air, then landed back on the bike again! That was the best poo I ever had - sadly, in my pants! Me and him went to Charlton away on my 175cc honda in August 1975. He weighed around 25 stone and me - about 17 stone. On the way home the bike's engine gave out, due to the excess weight. We had to push the b*stard 20 miles home, along the motorway/dual carriageway!

Away to Blackpool same period, 'Bumped into' some brummies looking for aggro, even though we were half their size and younger- didn't let the side down! PortsMOUTH H&A always an interesting encounter! The Villa match you refer to was when their fans got into the LR long before kick off - and thought 'Job done' until they got evicted by the Oxford boys!
